Once there was a man called kupe he was born in Kawhia. To find New Zealand he chased a giant Wheke octopus. Kupe was a fisherman for his tribe one day when Kupe was out fishing he didn't hatch a single fish he was even in his lucky spot but then Kupe saw something in the water…...it was a Wheke . The next morning he went to see the chief Kupe said that the chiefs pet Wheke had been eating all the bait and fish Kupe got angry and set out on a mission to kill the chiefs Wheke they used a waka to lure out the Wheke as they came to the ocean they saw a piece of uncharted land Kupes wife decide to call the land New Zealand or in English The Long White Cloud
